On April 23rd, a delegation led by Professor Tarek Sayed from the University of British Columbia, Professor Guo Yanyong from Southeast University, and Associate Professor Fu Chuanyun from Harbin Institute of Technology were invited to visit the Sustainable Development of Transportation in Western Urban Agglomeration Innovation and Intelligence Base for a three-day academic exchange activity.

Academician Tarek Sayed has maintained close communication with faculty and students in transportation engineering research at Chang'an university for many years. This event marks a new exploration into future cooperation. Tarek Sayed, Professor Yuanqing Wang, Professor Shuhong Ma, and other faculty members and doctoral students convened to discuss collaborative research on precise carbon accounting utilizing precise trajectory technology.

Subsequently, an academic lecture was delivered by Academician Tarek Sayed on the integration of online and offline research in traffic safety and mobility based on multi-source big data, entitled Towards A Sustainable Safe Urban Network: The Role of Advanced Technologies and Big Data. During the lecture, Tarek Sayed shared his recent experiences in leveraging new technologies such as edge cameras for data acquisition, enhancing road safety and efficiency through data analysis and model optimization, real-time safety evaluation and optimization, as well as the application of extreme value models. Tarek Sayed stressed that in the face of the new era of AI technology explosion, new methods need to be tried in the future in order to better evaluate the current situation and make predictions, and patiently answered questions from both onsite and online attendees.

After the lecture, Dean Ge Yingen of the School of Transport Engineering engaged in extensive discussions with Academician Tarek Sayed regarding relevant research work with hopes to maintain communication channels between both parties while fostering substantive cooperation to further advance international academic exchanges serving sustainable transportation development within Guanzhong Plain urban agglomeration.
